Flexibility, speed and supreme body control are the characteristics of this breathtaking martial art which dispenses with the use of weapons, but is nevertheless not unarmed as the art involves the use of arms and legs as exceptionally effective weapons.

Jukempo combines the old Takeda Ryu Jujitsu (e.g. locks and throws) with elements of the traditional Chinese Kempo (fist-fighting) including techniques with the fists and legs.

Initially it was a kind of Kumiuchi (close-quarter combat) on horseback. Later when horse riding disappeared, Jukempo developed into a martial art on the ground. It was the Nakamura School, which has substantially shaped today's Takeda Ryu Jukempo, the tradition of which is also continued in the Kobilza School.
